United World Wrestling allowed Russian wrestlers to participate in international competitions

The Executive Committee of the United World Wrestling (United World Wrestling) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions, subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee. This was announced by the director of the Center for Sports Training of National Teams Georgy Bryusov in Telegram.
In March, the IOC proposed to allow athletes in a neutral status to compete who do not support Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. The Committee also suggested that athletes affiliated with the armed forces and security agencies should not be allowed to compete.
According to Georgy Bryusov, the bureau of the United World Wrestling proposed the IOC to soften the criteria allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions, in particular, in the clause on the work of athletes with Russian military organizations under a contract.
In addition, the bureau allowed not to check athletes from the youth teams of Russia and Belarus for connection with military organizations. The Bureau also called for additional safety measures at competitions to protect athletes.
Russian and Belarusian wrestlers were suspended from the competition on March 2, 2022 following the recommendations of the IOC in connection with the military conflict in Ukraine.
