In the summer of 2020, actor Mikhail Efremov, while heavily intoxicated, got behind the wheel and became involved in an accident in the center of Moscow. As a result of the incident, the driver of the van, Sergei Zakharov, died. After considering all appeals, the theater and film star was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. The actor is currently serving his sentence in a general regime colony, and expects to be released on parole in the near future.

For many years, Mikhail Efremov suffered from drug and alcohol addiction. The entourage knew about the celebrity’s problems, but did not take any measures. For example, producer Mark Rudinshtein said that during the Kinotavr festival in Sochi, the actor drank without stopping. According to Rudinshtein, Efremov got so drunk that he could not walk to the hotel on his own, sometimes lying on the pier or on the rocks. Colleagues could not remember what the artist looked like sober.

The famous narcologist Vasily Shurov noted in his latest interview that the degradation of Mikhail Efremov was difficult not to notice. The changes in his appearance were, as they say, obvious. And this was clearly noticeable both to spectators of performances with the actor’s participation and to journalists.

“In Samara, when he started swearing from the stage during a performance. And in general, when I gave an interview, you look at the face, these nails have been uncut for three months. Sad impression, it was very neglected. Six wives, a bunch of children, no one really needs him,” the doctor noted in a conversation on the Nadezhda Strelets channel.

In the interview, the doctor emphasized that he does not feel anger towards Efremov. In his opinion, the actor received a serious sentence due to the unsuccessful work of his lawyer. It was the lawyer who, with his “expert advice,” brought Efremov to prison, and for a long time.

“He behaved incorrectly after the accident. First he asked for forgiveness, and then the lawyer tricked him into refusing. This setup is very cruel. In fact, he received the upper limit for precisely this behavior. If he had asked for forgiveness, compensated, would have turned to people. Our people are very compassionate. I think there would have been a completely different solution,” Shurov reasoned.
