UN may complete its peacekeeping mission in Mali by June 30

The UN peacekeeping mission in Mali, which has been going on for more than 10 years, could end on June 30, informed Reuters with reference to the draft resolution of the French delegation.
All mission personnel can be withdrawn within six months. According to the French draft resolution, the mission staff must leave the country by December 31, 2023. In total, the UN mission in Mali has about 13,000 people.
On June 16, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop asked the UN forces to leave the country “without delay”, informed TV channel France24. He noted that the government is ready to assist in the withdrawal of peacekeepers from the country, and added that the mission in Mali has become “part of the problem” and “ignites tension in society.”
The UN Multidisciplinary Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) began in April 2013, it was established by a resolution of the Organization’s Security Council. The website of the UN peacekeeping operations says that the purpose of sending peacekeepers to the country was “to support political processes.”
