The specialist made the corresponding statement from the podium of the “Last Mile” forum, which was held as part of the UN climate conference in Dubai.
As an example, the specialist cited statistics on the incidence of malaria over the past few years. Climate change is having unpredictable effects on the spread of the disease, he said. For example, in 2022, there were a million more infections registered than in 2021.
“Basically two things are observed; either there is too little water or there is too much water. Droughts cause malnutrition… and malnourished children are more susceptible to disease… With floods in other parts of the world there is too much water, which is the ideal environment for mosquitoes to breed, and the number of malaria cases is on the rise,” said Michael Adekunle Charles.
