UN Court obliges Azerbaijan to ensure free passage along the Lachin corridor

The International Court of Justice ordered Baku to ensure unhindered movement along the Lachin corridor, which links Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, Interfax reported on Wednesday.
The court ruling states that “until a final decision is made on this case, Azerbaijan is obliged … to take all measures in its power to ensure the unhindered movement of people, vehicles and goods along the Lachin corridor.”
In January, Yerevan submitted to the International Court of Justice a memorandum on commenting on and applying the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination against Azerbaijan. In it, Armenia detailed gross violations of the provisions of the convention by Baku over the decades.
Baku, for its part, stated that it also filed a memorandum with the International Court of Justice, which is “an important event in the international litigation of Azerbaijan against Armenia in accordance with the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.”
Armenia says the Lachin corridor was blocked by Azerbaijan on December 12 last year, severely restricting the delivery of food and medicine, as well as travel to Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku denies this, according to its version, a protest against illegal mining is taking place on the road, but vehicles pass through it unhindered.
Baku asks the International Court of Justice to oblige Yerevan to stop mining the territory of Azerbaijan and not to prevent the return of the Azerbaijani civilian population.
