UN Secretary General Guterres calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and Sudan during Ramadan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke to reporters and called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Sudan during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began last week.

In his statement, Guterres made the strongest call to honor the spirit of Ramadan by ending the fire and removing all obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid at the speed and volume required. As the UN Secretary General noted, the time for peace has come in Gaza, Sudan and other places. He calls on political, religious and community leaders to do everything they can to ensure this sacred period becomes a time of empathy, action and peace.

Guterres also called for the release of all hostages in the Palestinian enclave and recalled upcoming religious holidays among other faiths. The UN Secretary General indicated that Christians will soon celebrate Easter, and Jews will celebrate Passover.
