Meteorologists from the United Nations have called extreme heat in the Northern Hemisphere the new normal. Climate expert at the World Meteorological Organization (which is a division of the UN), Alvaro Silva, said that the sharp increase in temperature “did not come as a surprise.”
According to him, in recent years, the frequency of phenomena such as heat waves or abnormal precipitation has increased. It has to do with human activity. And first of all, with greenhouse gas emissions.
July was the hottest month on the planet in the history of meteorological observations. According to the WMO, August will be no less sultry. In Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Croatia, France and Switzerland have already announced a strong heat wave. French meteorologists predict up to +40 in the south of the country. Türkiye has announced a new national heat record. +49.5 degrees was recorded there.
