UN asks for $1.2 billion to help Palestinians

The UN will ask its donors on November 6 to provide $1.2 billion in emergency assistance to residents of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, according to a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
“The cost of meeting the needs of 2.7 million people—that is, the entire population of Gaza and 500,000 people in the occupied West Bank—is estimated at $1.2 billion,” quotes RIA Novosti document.
The initial appeal, published on October 12, asked for $294 million to help 1.3 million people, but since that day the situation has become “increasingly desperate,” the organization added. The assistance will include food, water, medical care, housing, etc.
27 October UN General Assembly accepted a resolution put forward by Arab countries that calls for an immediate truce in the conflict zone between Israel and Palestine. It condemns violence against civilians on both sides, and also calls for the release of illegally held prisoners and compliance with humanitarian law – not to attack peaceful civilian targets.
On October 30, Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reported that 70% of those killed in the Gaza Strip were women and children. The Gaza-based Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. The Israeli army responded by launching Operation Iron Swords. On October 27, the Israeli military announced an expansion of the ground operation and called on residents of the northern Gaza Strip to move to the south, promising them humanitarian assistance. On November 2, the Israeli army conducted an operation to encircle Gaza City.
According to the latest data, more than 10,000 people have died as a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Gaza reported more than 9,000 deaths in Israeli strikes, and about 1,400 people were killed in Israel after the group’s attack.
