Ukrenergo: Ukraine will have to import electricity from Europe in summer

Due to the lack of generating capacity this summer, Ukraine will be forced to import electricity from Europe. This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytsky, head of Ukrenergo.
Kudrytsky noted that the available capacity in Ukraine is lower than usual, and all reserves in the energy system will be activated in the summer to ensure uninterrupted power supply. It will probably be necessary to import certain amounts of electricity from Europe.
The head of Ukrenergo also stressed that in the summer, for the first time in several decades, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant would be inaccessible, and thermal and hydroelectric power plants also received significant damage.
“Many power plants have been damaged, and our main and difficult task now is to restore as many power units as possible by the beginning of the autumn-winter period. We are also working on the restoration of Ukrenergo’s main networks, which received the most damage during shelling. I am sure that we will cope with this task,” the head of the company explained.
According to his estimates, a complete renewal of the Ukrainian energy system will take several years.
“There are objects that were almost completely destroyed and are now being actively restored,” Kudritsky said.
