Spectators of the Roland Garros tennis tournament booed the Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina for not wanting to shake hands with the Russian woman Anna Blinkova, the Championship reports.
The match of the third round of the Grand Slam clay tournament – the French Open between Svitolina and Blinkova lasted 2 hours and 1 minutes. It ended with the victory of the Ukrainian tennis player.
After the match, Svitolina refused to shake hands with her opponent, arguing her decision with the “position of officials.” After completing the meeting, Svitolina went for a handshake only to the judge on the tower. Then she turned around to greet the audience, in response there were whistles and disapproving exclamations.
Svitolina’s next opponent in the tournament will be another Russian Daria Kasatkina.
