Ukrainian figure skaters Violetta Serova and Ivan Khobta, despite sports tradition, refused to congratulate on their victory and shake hands with the Georgian duet of Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava, who took first place at the Junior Grand Prix stage, held in Budapest (Hungary). The Serov-Khobt duo took second place in the tournament.
During the award ceremony, Metelkina and Berulava hugged the bronze medalists, the Canadian duo of Martine Ariono Kent and Charles Laliberte-Laurent, and then approached Serova and Khobta to congratulate their rivals on the silver medal, but the Ukrainian couple refused to shake hands and demonstrated their rejection in every possible way.
Anastasia Metelkina began playing for the Georgian national team in 2020, Luka Berulava – since 2019. Both are students of the Moscow Figure Skating School.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Georgia, despite numerous requests from local journalists, has not yet commented on the incident.
