Ukrainian Shakhtar reached the spring stage of European Cups – Kommersant

The Ukrainian football club Shakhtar (formally representing Donetsk, but based in Lviv) guaranteed itself participation in the spring stage of European competition thanks to its victory over the Belgian Antwerp in the match of the 5th round of the Champions League.
The game between Shakhtar and Antwerp ended with a score of 1:0 in favor of the Ukrainian team. The only goal in this meeting was scored by Pitmen’s defender Nikolai Matvienko.
Shakhtar are currently in third place in their Champions League group with 9 points. The team guaranteed itself participation either in the playoffs of the main European Cup tournament or in the decisive stage of the Europa League. Also, the leaders of the group in which Shakhtar plays – the Portuguese Porto and the Spanish Barcelona (its Ukrainian club beat its Ukrainian club in the last round of the Champions League) have 9 points each.
