Fraudsters from Ukraine illegally use purchased telephone databases. Pretending to be employees of mobile operators, attackers report overdue debt on the subscriber’s account. Lawyer Alexander Khaminsky spoke about a new method of deceiving Russians, writes “360”.
To convince the victim, scammers call the victim by name and patronymic and give the numbers of invoices from two or three years ago that were issued but not paid in full.
The publication’s interlocutor added that citizens are informed that their number is allegedly blocked and they are threatened that it will be sold in six months if they do not transfer money to a reserve account.
Subscribers who agree to transfer funds are told by scammers that the block has been removed and the money was used to pay off debts and therefore will not be reflected in the current account.
