Ukrainian nationalists hounded Anne Veski over a concert in Estonia

The singer did not give up the Russian language

Just recently, Anne Veski regularly visited Russia. The Estonian star actively toured and performed at the best concert venues in the country. However, after the start of the Ukrainian conflict, the Soviet pop diva does not appear in Moscow. Despite this, the singer regularly gets into scandals. The other day something new happened: this time because of local and Ukrainian nationalists.

The 68-year-old singer now does not disdain any work: she is ready to sing in open areas, in shopping centers and in small concert halls in Estonia in any weather. Until recently, Veski tried not to perform hits in Russian at her performances. Spectators left her concerts disappointed. Many of them wanted to hear the songs that made Anna a star. Including “There’s a sharp turn behind.” Not long ago, Veski found a way out.

“Anne recorded a version of her hit in Estonian,” the stars around us told us. – But it doesn’t sound as bright as in Russian. And the public, of course, is waiting for the Russian version. That’s why Anne often experiments. For example, half of the song can be performed in Russian, and the second part in Estonian.

In Narva, the star sang “Turn” exclusively in Russian. The recording was posted on the Internet. As a result, Veski immediately came under attack from Estonian and Ukrainian nationalists. The singer is being called the worst names and is being demanded to ban performances in Estonia.

The artist herself has not yet made any statements on this matter. After the start of the SVO, the star did not give a single big interview.

By the way, this is not the first time Anna has encountered bullying in her homeland. Not so long ago, Veski was actively criticized for the inscription on posters that she was an Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR.

“Anne has never hidden her attitude towards Russia, towards the Russian language,” say the organizers of the performances. – Now she finds herself between two fires. And she is very worried about the current situation, because she does not understand how to proceed. She owes her popularity to Russia, people adore her – she understands this. But at home, nationalists do not give peace. How can she give up most of her life? So she decided that she would sing in Russian, no matter what.

Let us remind you that not so long ago Veski experienced a personal tragedy. A year and a half ago, after a long illness, her husband, with whom she had lived for more than forty years, died. Anna is still having a hard time experiencing the departure of her beloved husband.
