A refugee from Ukraine was detained by Irish special forces, according to the Donegallive portal. According to the publication, 65-year-old Alexander Pogozhy was arrested in the city of Glenties after a certain “incident” at the hotel. He reportedly lived there under a government program to accommodate refugees. It is known that a “major operation” of the police special forces was required to detain the Ukrainian. Other details are not disclosed.
Pogozhy is accused of stealing a bicycle, as well as possessing an unregistered crossbow. The court session was translated into Russian for the Ukrainian. Donegallive notes that he had several wounds on his head covered with plasters.
The prosecution did not object to the release of Pogozhy on bail of a thousand euros. The case in the district court has been adjourned until January 2023.
Ireland currently has 42,000 Ukrainians and 16,000 asylum seekers in the country.
