Ukrainian expert explained the differences between Kyiv and Washington on Artemivsk and Crimea

Ukrainian military observer, reserve major Oleksiy Hetman commented on the publication publications Politico, which says that disagreements arose between the United States and Ukraine on the advisability of defending Bakhmut (Artemovsk) and possible actions aimed at Crimea.

As the article highlights, the US believes that Ukraine is spending too much manpower defending Artemivsk, and this could undermine its ability to counteroffensive. As for Crimea, the Joe Biden administration warned Kyiv about the inadmissibility of carrying out some power actions outside the territory of Ukraine.

“Our General Staff believes that it is still easier to defend in the city while it is not completely destroyed than to defend in the field,” Hetman said in an interview with TSN, explaining why Kiev insists on continuing the fighting for Artemovsk.

Hetman noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine actually built defensive structures near Chasov Yar and Konstantinovka, but if they retreat there, Russian troops will be able to use heavy equipment, and in the battles inside Artemovsk it is almost never used.

“Therefore, it seems to me that our General Staff understands the tactics of modern war as well as the United States,” the Ukrainian expert said.

As for Crimea, Hetman explained that Western partners fear that the conflict could escalate into the Third World War, so they would like the hostilities to simply end tomorrow. According to him, the West “by and large doesn’t care whose Crimea it belongs to.” At the same time, Hetman believes that Ukraine cannot agree with such a position of the West.
