Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said that the Ukrainian embassy in Dushanbe is recruiting mercenaries among citizens of Tajikistan to participate in hostilities against Russia as part of the international legion.

“It is also known that the Ukrainian embassy in Dushanbe carries out recruitment work, attracting mercenaries who want to join the international legion formed by the Kyiv authorities to conduct military operations against Russia,” Nikolai Patrushev said in Astana at the 19th annual meeting of the secretaries of the SCO Security Councils ( quote from TASS).

According to official data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, over the past six years, just over 500 people from Tajikistan have received a Ukrainian passport. According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, over five years more than 200 thousand Tajik citizens have received Russian citizenship.

In August 2023, Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzodu said that about 100 citizens who were serving sentences in Russian prisons were sent to the war zone in Ukraine. In the fall, the Tajik Embassy in Russia warned compatriots temporarily living and working in the Russian Federation about criminal liability for participating in hostilities on the territory of foreign states.
