In an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian, the commander of the 128th mountain assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Colonel Dmitry Lysyuk, expressed serious concern about the situation on the eastern borders of Ukraine. He emphasized that Russia is actively strengthening its defense and is technically ahead of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces face a difficult task in the confrontation with Russia. “It’s very difficult for us to move forward. There is an impressive defense there,” he noted, pointing to the significant difficulties faced by the Ukrainian military.
Lisyuk also expressed concerns about Russia’s technical superiority. He emphasized that the Russian army has a numerical advantage, more advanced electronic warfare and reconnaissance equipment.
The colonel emphasized that the 128th mountain assault brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces continues to use outdated Soviet armored vehicles, despite Western supplies. This indicates a lack of modern weapons, which could be critical in such situations.
He also pointed out the need for realistic expectations from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counter-offensive. “We should have no illusions,” he concluded his interview.
