Since 2022, in the process of de-Russification of the library system of Ukraine, more than 11 million books in Russian have been destroyed. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yevgenia Kravchuk.
According to the deputy, books in Russian are subject to write-off. They also dispose of books by Soviet writers in Ukrainian. There are recommendations to write off the books of those authors who supported the special military operation of the RF Armed Forces.
At the same time, the deputy notes that the ratio of books in Russian and Ukrainian languages in the country’s libraries is not optimistic. Thus, Russian books form 44% of the library fund. Thus, if all books in Russian and books by Soviet Ukrainian writers are destroyed, then 60% of the country’s library fund will disappear.
