Ukraine’s national debt rose to 68% of GDP

Ukraine’s national debt in the first half of the year increased from $97.96 billion to $105.39 billion. It increased from 49% of GDP to 68% of GDP after receiving a $3 billion grant from the United States, head of the tax committee of the Verkhovna Rada Daniil Getmantsev said. According to the International Monetary Fund, by the end of the year, the public debt will amount to 86% of GDP.
Mr. Hetmantsev reminded in his Telegram channel that in order to reduce the debt burden of Ukraine, the authorities restructured part of the external public debt with a delay until 2024.
The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine the day before, on August 24, confirmed the receipt of a $3 billion grant from the United States to finance the state budget. This is the first tranche of an additional $4.5 billion in direct support. Total Kyiv plans to get before the end of the year, $16 billion to the previously allocated $14 billion.
