The United States has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. The White House is confident that depleted uranium shells for Abrams tanks do not pose a radioactive threat and will be used responsibly. Meanwhile, Anthony Blinken is in Kyiv on a two-day visit. Kommersant FM political observer Dmitry Drize believes that the Secretary of State’s task is to form a new vector for Ukraine’s development.

Anthony Blinken arrived in Kyiv with an unscheduled visit and with gifts – as expected. Another $1 billion in aid is a good amount. Abrams tanks and depleted uranium shells are about to arrive. The secretary of state has a big program, meetings, communication with people, excursions around the city and its environs.

It is clear that the Secretary of State came for a reason. There is a lot of talk now about a turning point, it is necessary to intensify the political process, not just the military one. Society around the world gets tired of everything that happens, gets used to it. And, accordingly, crime is activated, shady businessmen and everyone who at first went into the shadows, into the underground, are now returning from it.

The United States is getting more and more involved in the election campaign every day. Ukraine and its further support is a key topic. The trump card of the Republicans is that, they say, aid is being stolen, corruption in the country has not been defeated. The authorities are not losing their legitimacy, but there is a threat of slipping into dictatorship, and this should absolutely not be allowed.

In addition, you need to have at least some prospect of cessation of hostilities. In connection with the above, Washington insists on holding all-Ukrainian regular elections, both presidential and parliamentary. It is not entirely clear how to do this in combat conditions. But the Western world needs this, and, apparently, it is ready to finance all this.

Ukraine must change – get rid of the Soviet legacy, the kingdom of oligarchs and criminal elements. It is noticeable that under pressure from America or without it – in this case it does not matter – but Zelensky’s office is taking action. Igor Valeryevich Kolomoisky himself was sent under arrest – perhaps the most prominent representative of the oligarchic rule.

Right during Blinken’s visit, Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov was officially left, and a new one, Rustem Umerov, was appointed. Apparently, this is only the beginning, there will be other serious decisions.

Yes, all these plans of a democratic administration are more like a utopia, an idealistic picture of the world – a “City of the Sun” that cannot be built. Defeating corruption in the post-Soviet space is, you know, hardly a feasible task even for America. However, why not. If we all come together.

Meanwhile, there is an effective counterbalance to all this called “realpolitik” – they say, let’s recognize everything as it is, enter into negotiations with Russia, get economic dividends to the delight of our American voters and let’s live and get good even more. And Ukraine, we will keep it afloat, but nothing more.

In fact, the arrival of the Republicans will not fundamentally change anything. The only thing they will say is that the Democrats ruined everything, and we will restore it now. Ukraine is a strategic priority for the West. Global victory is important here – the triumph of ideas. The voter will not forgive defeat.

Approaches may change, but that’s not the point. However, with all this, Blinken clearly has a difficult time in a conversation with a Ukrainian ally. But who said it would be easy? The fate of the whole world is decided, not otherwise. At least that’s how they try to present everything that is happening there in Washington.
