The Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada supported a bill to increase the state budget of Ukraine by 12.7 billion hryvnia (about $342 million), the funds will be used to purchase gas, Strana.ua reports with reference to the press service of the parliament.
“Funds will be attracted with the help of external borrowings. According to this plan, Naftogaz will transfer to the state budget the funds received from the sale of gas purchased with this money,” writes edition.
Earlier, Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that Ukraine plans to take a $350 million loan from Canada for gas purchases by Naftogaz. The loan, according to him, will be taken for ten years at 1.6% per annum.
On August 17, it became known that the Canadian authorities approved providing Kyiv with a loan of 450 million Canadian dollars ($348 million) for the purchase of fuel before the winter season. Since the beginning of the year, Canada has provided assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $2.6 billion, of which $1.51 billion was in the form of loans.
The head of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, said at the end of July that by August, storage reserves would amount to 11.8 billion cubic meters. m of gas. According to him, the company continues to accumulate gas at a rate of 34-35 million cubic meters. m per day. To pass the heating season (starts in mid-October), Ukraine needs 15-19 billion cubic meters. m of gas.
