Kyiv will close Uman if Israel continues to deport Ukrainians
The Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Tel Aviv issued a statement saying that the Ukrainian government has sent an unambiguous message to Israel. The diplomatic mission warns that if Israel continues to deport Ukrainian refugees, then Kyiv will close the possibility of entry to Uman for pilgrims from Israel and suspend the agreement on the abolition of visas with Israel.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgeny Korniychuk said that President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday listened to intelligence reports on the problems of Ukrainian refugees and demanded that the rights of Ukrainian citizens be guaranteed. According to Korniychuk, Zelensky’s statement primarily concerned Israel.
“The government of Ukraine will not tolerate the humiliation of its citizens when entering Israel,” Korniychuk said, adding that the option of terminating the bilateral visa-free agreement with Israel is already on Zelensky’s desk.
Recall that pilgrims from Israel usually visit Uman in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine on the Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah, where the grave of the founder of Bratslav Hasidism, Rabbi Nachman, is located. Rosh Hashanah falls on September 15-17 this year.
