British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps announced the deployment of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters to Poland. writes TASS.
The number of aircraft sent has not been specified. According to the minister, the authorities made this decision in response to “a request from Polish friends.” He added that the move would “send a powerful signal” of support for the NATO ally amid the supposed “high threat of Russian interference.”
Eurofighter Typhoon is a fourth-generation multirole fighter, jointly developed by Italy, Great Britain, Spain and Germany. The aircraft is in service with the air forces of Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Austria and others.
In July, the newspaper Welt am Sonntag, citing sources, wrote that there was a conflict in the ruling coalition in Germany over the supply of Typhoon components to Saudi Arabia. According to media reports, Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who heads the liberal Free Democratic Party, spoke in favor of the supplies. The Green Party opposed the deliveries.
Earlier, Shapps announced the sending of British troops to Ukraine. As The Telegraph newspaper clarified, the minister also called on UK defense firms to open factories in Ukraine.
Later Prime Minister Rishi Sunak denied Shapps’ words, clarifying that the British military will arrive on the territory of Ukraine after the end of the conflict. He noted that such plans concern long-term cooperation.
