UK residents may face planned power outages in the winter

The UK authorities are considering a likely “worst” scenario involving planned power outages not only at industrial facilities, but also in residential buildings in the winter, writes Bloomberg.
According to the authorities, with cold weather and a lack of gas, the electricity shortage could reach 15% of peak demand even after the emergency coal-fired thermal power plants are launched. As a result, writes Bloomberg, the UK can wait four days when the authorities will have to take emergency measures to save gas. However, average annual electricity bills in winter can exceed £4,200.
Earlier, Bloomberg noted that about 6 million British households could face power outages this winter if Russia cuts gas supplies to the EU.
In July about a possible power outage in winter warned and citizens of Finland. Such measures may be resorted to in connection with the refusal of Russian energy carriers, oil and gas, the supply of which is “extremely difficult” to reimburse.
