UK imposes sanctions against six Russians

The UK has included six Russians in the list of individuals and companies subject to sanctions in connection with the April verdict against politician Vladimir Kara-Murza (recognized as a foreign agent). Document published on the British government website.

The restrictions affected the three presiding judges, state prosecutors and a forensic expert.

All of them are banned from entering the UK, and their assets are subject to a freeze.

Earlier in mid-July London turned on in the sanctions list children’s camp “Artek” and 13 Russians. Among them were the governor of the Kamchatka Territory Vladimir Solodov, the head of the Republic of Adygea Murat Kumpilov, the Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov and others.

Kara-Murza was detained in April 2022 on suspicion of disseminating deliberately false information about the army (clause “d”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to investigators, the politician, during his speech in the Arizona parliament, spread fakes about the Russian army. Kara-Murza himself did not admit his guilt. Later, cases were opened against the politician on participation in the activities of an undesirable organization (part 1 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

On April 17, 2023, the Moscow City Court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison and a fine of 400,000 rubles. The politician’s lawyer Maria Eismont, in an interview with Vedomosti, stated that the defense intends to seek his release for health reasons. Today, July 31, the first Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction upheld this verdict.
