UEFA once again clarified its position on the international status of Crimean football.
“With regard to the situation in Crimea, in accordance with the decision of the UEFA emergency committee of 22 August 2014, the UEFA Executive Committee decided to ban Crimean clubs from playing in competitions organized by the Russian Football Union from 1 January 2015, and that the region be considered a “special zone “for football purposes until further notice,” UEFA’s press service told RIA Novosti Sport.
Earlier, MK wrote that the Football National League (FNL), according to the press service of the organization, plans to create a working group that will analyze the readiness of Crimean professional clubs to join the FNL. This decision was made on August 22 at a meeting of the Presidium of the National Football League after considering a letter from the Crimean Football Union on the inclusion of the peninsula’s clubs in the competition under the auspices of the FNL.
The former Secretary General of the RFU, President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev also spoke about the inevitability of the integration of Crimean football into Russian football.
“Crimea is a special zone, for eight years UEFA was supposed to develop football, the RFU came up with proposals. Now our colleagues from FIFA and UEFA have not done anything for development, either in terms of infrastructure or in terms of funding. We had this dialogue and were are close to integrating youth football, but the dialogue has ended and has recently resumed unofficially.
The task for the near future is the development of football on the peninsula, this position, albeit unofficially, was heard by colleagues from FIFA and UEFA. I think that Crimean football will move at a different pace in the near future, it is important not to burn bridges. The integration of Crimean football into Russian football is inevitable,” Alaev said on August 16 in an interview with TASS.
