UEFA announced the impossibility of Russian youth teams returning to international tournaments
The General Secretary of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Theodore Theodoridis, following the organization’s congress, said that UEFA discussed the admission of youth teams from Russia, but decided not to return them to international tournaments.
As Theodoridis noted, there was a discussion within the organization about the possibility of children participating in competitions, but UEFA realized that this was impossible. He pointed out that the president of the organization compared the situation in Russia with Yugoslavia, when a whole generation of young football players suffered because of the ban.
The UEFA Secretary General added that when the organization saw that this was impossible, they did not make this decision.
