UEFA punished Fenerbahce for fans chants in support of Putin

The home stadium of the Turkish Fenerbahce FC will be partially closed for one match, and the club itself will be fined €50,000 as a punishment by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The reason for the application of penalties was the behavior of the fans of the Turkish club at the meeting between Dynamo Kyiv and Fenerbahce: they chanted the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“To fine Fenerbahce €50,000 and punish with a partial closure of the stadium (at least 5,000 seats) for the next match in the UEFA club tournament in which Fenerbahce will play as the host club, for the behavior of the fans, for throwing objects on the field and for provocative cries of an offensive nature, ”TASS quotes a message from the UEFA press center.
Union began investigation of the incident with the chants of Turkish club fans on 28 July. Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu expressed regret over the behavior of football fans. Later in Fenerbahce management refused apologize to Ukraine for the chants of the fans: “This is the official representative for foreign affairs (Ukraine.— “b”) and the ambassador should apologize to us,” added FC President Ali Koç.
