UEFA President urged not to wait for the admission of Russian clubs until the end of hostilities in Ukraine

The re-elected president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Alexander Ceferin, believes that it is difficult to expect the return of Russian clubs and teams to international competitions during the military operation in Ukraine. In his opinion, it will be possible to return clubs and teams to tournaments under the auspices of UEFA only after the end of hostilities.
“It is very difficult to change anything until the fighting stops,” said Mr. Čeferin (quoted from the CGTN Europe Twitter account).
He did not announce more specific dates for the possible return of Russian clubs and teams to the international arena.
February 28, 2023 UEFA and FIFA (International Football Federation) expelled Russian national teams and clubs from all international tournaments in connection with the conflict in Ukraine. Due to the decision of UEFA and FIFA, the Russian national team was unable to play in the play-offs for reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the Russian national team is also not participating in the selection for Euro 2024. The RFU’s bid to host the European Championship in 2028 or 2032 was also rejected.
