UAE Receives SCO Dialogue Partner Status

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) received the status of dialogue partner on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), reported WAM agency.
The memorandum was signed by UAE Ambassador to India Abdulnasser Alshaali together with SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming.
A day earlier, on May 5, the SCO member countries at a meeting of foreign ministers in Goa, India, agreed to deepen coordination.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the organization is “actively proceeding with the procedures necessary for the admission of Belarus”, which has observer status, and as new dialogue partners “Bahrain, Kuwait, the Maldives, Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates are joining the SCO cooperation.”
The ministry noted that this “will open up new opportunities for connecting these countries to the work of the association in areas of mutual interest.”
Now the organization officially consists of Russia, Kazakhstan, India, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The list of dialogue partner countries includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Turkey and others.
