U.S. has no ‘viable capability’ in hypersonic weapons: congressman

The United States does not have a “viable capability” in the field of hypersonic weapons, said Rep. Doug Lambourne. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the congressman, Russia probably “has primitive technology,” but the main and growing threat to the US is China, which is going to build hundreds and thousands of such missiles.
The congressman acknowledged the lack of the necessary technologies in the United States. “We don’t have a viable hypersonic capability,” he said.
Lambourne also noted that so far no one has the ability to counter hypersonic weapons, which also, in his opinion, requires special attention. In this regard, he called for a focus on financing and developing hypersonic weapons.
The United States lags behind Russia and China in the development of hypersonic weapons, where such systems have already been put into service and have even been used in combat. So, during a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian Aerospace Forces repeatedly used the Kinzhal hypersonic complex.
