Tyson Fury has made his mark

The requests of the British are impressive. He wants £500 million for his participation in the fight, and also requires that everyone interested in organizing the biggest boxing event in the last two decades come up with specific legally binding proposals no later than September 1st. Otherwise, Fury threatens to retire permanently.

On Wednesday, WBC belt holder Tyson Fury, in his usual outrageous manner, announced his conditions for participating in the fight against IBF, WBA and WBO champion Alexander Usyk. Recallthat last weekend the Ukrainian fighter defended his titles, winning a split decision over Anthony Joshua.

34-year-old Tyson Fury posted a statement on social networks that he did not intend to wait long for the organization of the fight. Moreover, he set a deadline of September 1st. Until that date, in his opinion, the key parameters of the future match should be agreed upon. We also note that the WBC, in turn, also set a deadline – already for Tyson Fury. He was required to decide no later than Friday whether he would still fight. The fact is that in the spring, after the victory over Dillian Whyte, Fury announced about the end of a career. However, he had done this before, so few people took his words seriously.

“I inform all applicants who want me to enter the ring again. I give you seven days, until September 1st, to come with the money. If not, thank you all and goodbye,” Fury said.

But his requirements for the timing of the resolution of the financial issue are much less stringent than requests for the prize fund. “I am ready to return to the ring, but it should cost an indecent amount,” Fury said. “Usyk is not Anthony Joshua, he is just some foreigner who no one cares about. If they want a fight, they’ll have to pay. Mayweather got £400m for the Pacquiao fight. I want £500m.”

The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, which took place in 2015, to which Tyson Fury refers, is really provided to its participants fees in the amount of 400 million, however, not pounds, but dollars. Most – 60% – went to the winner of the match, Mayweather. Two years later, the same Mayweather became a member of the show, in which he fought according to the rules of boxing with mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor. He won and received a fee of $ 275 million. Tyson Fury does not seem to have any intention of losing to Mayweather in terms of prize money. Moreover, his likely fight with Oleksandr Usyk could become a truly epoch-making event. After all, there has not been an absolute champion in heavyweight for two decades, since the time of Lennox Lewis. As well as there was not a single champion who owned four belts at once: the WBO received full recognition from other boxing federations only in 2007.

Judging by the statements of the parties, the process of organizing the battle has already been launched.

As Fury’s manager Frank Warren noted, he sees no reason why the fight might not take place. Moreover, according to him, an agreement has already been reached that the prize fund will be divided among the boxers in equal shares.

As for the location of the fight, according to Frank Warren, he would like to organize it in London, but due to a number of circumstances this is unlikely. The manager noted that the demand for tickets can only be met if Wembley Stadium is rented for a fight, but this is hardly possible until the end of spring – there are simply no free windows in the arena schedule. So for now, the most likely venue for the super match is Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), which also hosted the Usyk-Joshua meeting. Even the estimated date of the fight was called – December 17, that is, the day before the final of the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.

According to Frank Warren, it is necessary to act quickly, otherwise there is a risk that other defendants will intervene in the case. For example, in the event of delays with the organization of the fight, the boxing federations may require Usyk and Fury to hold mandatory defenses of their titles against rivals appointed by the federations. “The most difficult thing is to satisfy the financial requests of the parties,” Warren noted. “In any case, there should be much more money in this show than in the Usyk-Joshua match, simply because it will be, without exaggeration, a grand event.”

We add that earlier and 35-year-old Oleksandr Usyk declaredthat he will either only fight Tyson Fury or end his career.
