His opponent in the fight for such status will be determined on August 20 in a replay between Fury’s compatriot Anthony Joshua and Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

Tyson Fury announced that he “decided to return to boxing” with a post on Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned). In it, he clearly indicated who would be his opponent in the next fight, saying that he always wanted to “fight Derek Chisora ​​at the end of his career.” Fury’s compatriot Chisora ​​is a very famous boxer who has repeatedly crossed paths with top opponents, but most often conceded to them and never won the champion title. Among these opponents was the young Tyson Fury. Derek Chisora ​​met him twice: in 2011 he lost on points, in 2014 – by knockout in the tenth round.

According to ESPN, the place of the battle has already been determined. This is the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. And the duel will most likely take place in December.

Moreover, it will not be organized by the main promoters of Tyson Fury – Frank Warren and Top Rank, but by Goldstar Promotions, which organizes various public events with the participation of stars in the UK.

Intrigue with the future of Tyson Fury arose in April, after the 33-year-old heavyweight fought Dillian Whyte. In it, he confidently, by knockout in the sixth round, defended the World Boxing Council championship title, which he had previously taken from the American Deontay Wilder. Immediately after the fight, Fury, who is in great demand among the public, unexpectedly announced that he was ending a career full of ups and scandals threatening disaster.

However, those words of Tyson Fury, who has been distinguished by eccentric behavior all his life, were taken seriously by few of the managers working in boxing, including his own. They made it clear that this was most likely about something like a marketing move, designed to further increase interest in Fury’s person before the most important event in his sports biography. And by that, of course, it doesn’t mean a fight with veteran Derek Chisora, even if he is also doomed to increased attention, but Tyson Fury’s opponent, judging by his July fight with a classy Bulgarian fighter Kubrat Publev (the British took the upper hand on points), is in good shape . For Fury, this performance will be a kind of warm-up before a much more significant fight.

A year ago, the scenario seemed inevitable, almost agreed upon, according to which Tyson Fury was about to face another famous British heavyweight, Anthony Joshua, who owned the belts of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO). ), in a duel with the status of the absolute world champion and colossal prize money at stake. However, the scenario collapsed after a sensational defeat Joshua in the September match against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, who moved into his category from the first heavyweight (up to 90.7 kg). The Briton activated the revenge clause written in the contract for him, and he was postponed for a long time for various reasons, including because of the special military operation of Russia in Ukraine: Usyk managed to enlist in his homeland in the ranks of territorial defense after it began and only after some time broke up with the service and resumed training.

But now with the re-fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, everything is in order. Saudi Arabia will host him on August 20. And if Fury does not misfire with Chisora, then his campaign for the title of absolute champion again turns into an actual one.
