Two US Congress Representatives Arrive in Taiwan
Two representatives of the United States Congress have arrived in the Taiwanese capital, Taipei. We are talking about members of the US Democratic Party Ami Bera and the Republican Party Mario Diaz-Balart. As the AP clarifies, with their visit they intend to confirm Washington’s commitment to supporting the island’s administration after the elections.
It is stated that the politicians will meet “high-ranking officials and business leaders,” but their names are not disclosed.
“Purpose of the trip – <…> express solidarity with its commitment to democratic values and explore opportunities to further strengthen strong economic and defense relations,” said a press release issued by Ami Bera representatives.
Let us remind you that elections in Taiwan took place on January 13, 2023. Lai Qingde was elected to the post of head of the administration. At a press conference, the politician said that intends to protect the islands from “threats of intimidation” from China.
