Ambassador Soltanovsky: Russia welcomes the Pope’s initiatives on Ukraine
Russia welcomes the initiatives of Pope Francis aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine. This statement was made by the Russian Ambassador to the Vatican Ivan Soltanovsky, writes RIA News.
The diplomat noted that the Russian Federation welcomes any initiatives that could bring closer the achievement of a strong and lasting peace.
“<…> especially when they come from such authoritative leaders as Francis,” Soltanovsky said.
At the same time, the ambassador expressed regret that for Kyiv, only the opinion of the leaders of countries who are not interested in stopping hostilities, but, on the contrary, in “inflating” it, is authoritative. According to him, these politicians are “pumping Ukraine up with weapons and ammunition.”
“In addition, the Kiev leadership tied its own hands by introducing a legislative ban on negotiating with Russia,” recalled the Russian Ambassador to the Vatican.
Earlier, the head of the Swiss Foreign Service, Ignazio Cassis, said about the impossibility of resolving the Ukrainian conflict without the participation of Russia.
