Two Tu-95MS strategic bombers of Russian long-range aviation performed a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian seas, reported Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“The flight duration was about four hours. Fighter escort was provided by the crews of Su-30cm aircraft of the Aerospace Forces,” the statement said.
The commander of long-range aviation, Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, emphasized in turn that the flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules.
The Tu-95MS strategic missile carrier is designed to destroy the most important targets in remote areas and deep behind enemy lines using nuclear missiles. The crew of one aircraft consists of seven people.
In mid-August, two Tu-95MS carried out scheduled patrols over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan, and in July – near the western coast of Alaska over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea. The last time the Ministry of Defense announced a planned flight over the Barents and Norwegian seas was in June.
September 11, two Tu-22M3 bombers completed scheduled patrols in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, in which NATO Northern Coasts exercises began on September 9.
