Two Russian Tu-160 strategic missile carriers conducted a planned eight-hour flight over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean, lasting 8 hours. About it informed Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“The flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace,” Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, commander of long-range aviation, commented on the flight.
The military commander added that Russian long-range aircraft regularly fly over the neutral waters of the Arctic and the North Atlantic, the Black and Baltic Seas, and the Pacific Ocean.
Tu-160 form the basis of long-range aviation – one of the three parts of the triad of strategic nuclear forces. Each missile carrier is capable of carrying 12 cruise missiles, which can be equipped with nuclear warheads.

The Tu-160M was created in the course of a large-scale modernization program for long-range combat aviation systems. The aircraft is equipped with modern weapons, an electronic warfare system (EW), as well as avionics. Tu-160M built from scratch made its first flight on January 12, 2022.
