According to information received from a source in the power structures of Crimea, most of the remaining ships of the Ukrainian Navy in Sevastopol after 2014 have already been disposed of or used as targets at shooting ranges. According to RIA Novosti, the recycling process takes place at an enterprise in Inkerman, which has been doing this since Soviet times.
It was previously announced that the remaining ships of the Ukrainian Navy in Sevastopol would not be transferred to the Black Sea Fleet. After the reunification of Crimea with Russia, about 20 ships remained on the peninsula, including the large landing ship “Konstantin Olshansky”, the corvettes “Ternopil”, “Lutsk”, the control ship “Slavutich” and others. However, until 2023, these ships were guarded in Sevastopol.
As noted, before the reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia, the Naval Forces consisted of about 40 warships and support vessels. Many of them did not undergo the necessary repairs due to lack of funds and were disposed of.
In 2014, Russia transferred some of the Navy ships remaining in Crimea to Ukraine, but the transfer process was suspended due to Kyiv’s refusal to accept them.
Moscow later stopped the transfer of ships due to the crisis in Donbass.
