Two silver and one bronze: Chukotka karatekas won awards at the All-Russian tournament

Young Anadyr karatekas completed their performance at the All-Russian Kyokushinkai Tournament “Eastern Frontier”. Pupils of the District Children’s and Youth Sports School won two silver and bronze medals. Twins Elizaveta and Ekaterina Slobodenyuk met in the battle for third place, reports Chukotka news agency.

The region was represented at the competition by students of the District Youth Sports School – four girls and two boys. The best results at the tournament were shown by experienced fighters who competed in the age category of 14-15 years. The newcomers competed in younger age groups, but they failed to conquer the Eastern Frontier.

Vyacheslav Chanchugsky took silver among 70 kg athletes at the tournament. In the semi-finals, he won ahead of schedule, knocking out his opponent. He kicked his opponent’s head with a quick blow. In the final match, the Anadyr karateka lost to the representative of the Khabarovsk Territory.

Another “silver” medal was won by Mikhail Shilovich. The young man competed in absolute weight. After a confident victory in the semi-finals, he met with a karateka from the Irkutsk region. The Chukotka athlete had a difficult fight, the difference in the weight of the fighters was 10 kg.

“Sisters Elizaveta and Ekaterina Slobodenyuk competed in the largest age category, each of them had three fights. In all the fights, they left no chance for other fighters. When moving up the standings, they had to decide the fate of the bronze medal. The twins went against each other. As a result of the confrontation, the judges recognized Katya as the more active fighter and the winner of the meeting. She became a medalist in the 50 kg weight category,” said team coach Anton Simonov.

The All-Russian Kyokushin tournament “Eastern Frontier” was held at the Irkutsk Sports Palace “Trud” from December 1 to 4. According to the organizers, the competition brought together 559 participants from 25 regions of Russia. A total of 67 sets of awards were awarded in three disciplines.

Let us remind you that in October, young Chukchi karatekas returned with trophies from the All-Russian Kyokushinkai competition “Big Confrontation”. Then Elizaveta Slobodenyuk and Vyacheslav Chanchugsky won silver and bronze at the tournament. The next tournament that Chukotka athletes plan to attend will be the Far East Championship. It will take place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in February 2024.
