Two Russians detained in Poland on charges of espionage

Employees of the Internal Security Agency, together with the police, detained two Russian citizens in a case of espionage, they were charged. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of the Republic Mariusz Kaminsky on Twitter.

According to the minister, they distributed propaganda materials of PMC Wagner on the territory of Krakow and Warsaw. Now the detainees are under arrest. At the same time, Kaminsky did not specify whether the Russians are connected with a group of foreign citizens who were detained in Poland on suspicion of espionage earlier.

On August 4, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland reported that employees of the Internal Security Agency detained a citizen of Belarus – the 16th defendant in the case of spying for Russia, he was charged with participating in an organized criminal group and carrying out actions against the interests of Poland. According to the department, the detainee was collecting information about critical infrastructure facilities and carried out sabotage activities “aimed at destabilizing the political situation in Poland.”

Detentions for spying for Russia in Poland began to be reported in April 2022. At that time, three people were arrested – citizens of Russia and Belarus, who were allegedly collecting data on military units. March 16, 2023 were detained nine more foreigners who, according to the prosecutor’s office, monitored the railways and allegedly prepared for sabotage in order to “paralyze the supply” of weapons to Ukraine. On March 27, it became known about another detainee on suspicion of espionage, he admitted his guilt.

30 June Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland reported about the arrest of a Russian hockey player from a “first league club” who, according to the agency, was collecting information about critical infrastructure in several voivodeships. On July 10, it became known that another suspect had been detained in the case of spying for Russia – he turned out to be a Ukrainian citizen who could observe the country’s critical infrastructure, including military installations and seaports.
