Two Latvian soldiers accused of violating the border with Belarus

Two armed Latvian soldiers violated the Belarusian border at the Grigorovschina checkpoint (Paternieki on the Latvian side), reported The State Border Committee of Belarus in its Telegram channel.
The Committee published a video in which two unidentified men in military uniform entered the Belarusian side for two meters, walked along the border, and then returned back to Latvia.
“Staying in the Latvian border area of military personnel of various law enforcement agencies, who do not have knowledge of border specifics, ethics and culture, contributes to the maintenance of tension and the emergence of such situations,” the Border Committee stressed.
Latvia has already been informed about the incident, the ministry added.
Latvia strengthened the regime of operation of the border service in the territories bordering with Belarus from August 11, 2023 to February 10, 2024. The decision was explained by an increase in the number of cases of illegal crossing of the Latvian-Belarusian border. It was reported that the support of the border guards will be provided by the national armed forces and the police.
