Two in one: “Silver Doe” + “Energy of Victories”

The Russian Olympic Committee was seething like never before. It’s no joke – they decided to present two prestigious awards on the same day. Winners of both awards, presenters of these same awards, Olympic champions invited to the ceremony, sports and not only journalists and photographers, as well as guests of the OK, communicated with each other before the ceremony. And the children, who were then awarded in one of the nominations, added smiles, laughter and warmth to the status event.

The double awards ceremony was hosted by the permanent chairman of the Energy of Victory jury, the well-known sports television commentator Viktor Gusev, and Alla Shishkina, a three-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming, a blogger and columnist for the Sport-Express newspaper.

As part of the Silver Doe award, the top 10 athletes, the coach and the team of the year are traditionally awarded according to the results of a survey by the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia (FSJR).

The Russian synchronized swimming team was the first to rise to the stage of the Olympic Committee (albeit with an incomplete squad, but with a coach Tatyana Pokrovskaya) as the best team of 2021. Seven-time Olympic champion Svetlana Romashina, having accepted the award from the hands of ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov, expressed special gratitude to the head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team Tatyana Pokrovskaya.

In the Sports Family nomination, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, ROC President, four-time Olympic champion in fencing, and his daughter, two-time Olympic champion Sofia Pozdnyakova, became the winners of the Silver Doe. Viktor Gusev issued a “certificate” when awarding: for two of them they won 7 Olympic medals for the country and 18 titles at the world championships. Sofia Pozdnyakova also accepted an elegant statuette in the Best Athlete of 2021 nomination.

“It’s always nice to receive an award for the first time, and immediately there is a desire to achieve recognition again,” Sofia briefly commented on the choice of sports journalists. The President of the ROC responded to the words of his daughter with dignity: “Today I am doubly happy. The success of their own children always inspires parents.

Also, the following athletes became laureates of the Silver Doe – 2021 award:

– Vitalina Batsarashkina – two-time Olympic champion – 2020 in air and small-caliber pistol shooting, world champion in mixed team competitions;

– Andrey Kalina – three-time Paralympic champion, multiple world and European champion in swimming;

– Daniil Medvedev – ex-first racket of the world, winner of the Grand Slam tournament, winner of the Davis Cup and the ATP Cup;

– Nikita Nagorny – Olympic champion – 2020, three-time world champion, eight-time European champion in artistic gymnastics, silver medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games;

– Roman Repilov – three-time world champion in luge, six-time winner of the European championships, two-time winner of the World Cup.

– Svetlana Romashina – seven-time Olympic champion, 21-time world champion, 13-time European champion. The most titled athlete in the history of synchronized swimming;

– Andrey Rublev – Olympic champion in 2020 in the mixed doubles, winner of 15 ATP tournaments, winner of the Davis Cup and the ATP Cup in 2021 as part of the Russian national tennis team;

– Evgeny Rylov – two-time Olympic champion (the first Russian athlete to win gold in swimming in the pool in the 21st century), two-time world champion, three-time world short course champion, four-time European champion;

– Maxim Khramtsov – Olympic champion – 2020 in taekwondo, world champion – 2017, two-time European champion, five-time Grand-Prix champion. The first Russian taekwondo player to win Olympic gold.

The journalists chose the head coach of the Russian beach soccer team Mikhail Likhachev as the best mentor. “I am very glad that after 8 years I again won in this nomination of the Silver Doe. I would like to thank the players I coach and who won the 2021 World Cup here at Luzhniki. They love football and sports in general – this gives hope that everything will be fine with us. We must return to the international arena strong,” said the recipient, accepting the coveted award.

The loudest applause of the filled ROC conference hall was caused by the words of Andrey Kalina: “I live in sports, and my victory is proof of this.” Kind words also came to the journalists: “I have noticed more than once how difficult it is to communicate with an athlete in order to make a quality material. Gradually, more and more of my colleagues begin to understand that we are doing one big thing. I want to thank sports journalists for their work and I promise to help athletes become as open and accessible as possible,” from gymnast Nikita Nagorny.

PJSC Gazprom representative Olga Chernykh, as part of the celebration of the Energy of Victories laureates, presented Viktor Gusev with a special prize for a special contribution to the development of sports journalism in Russia.

The most talented photographer Ivan Pisarenko received a separate award.

After a double solemn ceremony, the winners, prize-winners, laureates and guests of the Olympic Committee switched to informal but friendly communication.
