Twitter launches subscription for verified blue checkmark accounts for $7.99 per month

An updated Twitter Blue subscription has appeared in the App Store. It now includes the ability to verify the identity of the person who owns the account using a blue checkmark. The subscription price is $7.99. Twitter Blue only works in a few countries.
“Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue. Get Twitter Blue for $7.99 per month if you subscribe now,” the iOS update says (quoted by AFP). Android doesn’t have this feature yet. The company clarified that the new features have not yet been launched.
The Twitter Blue subscription existed before, but it did not include verification and cost $4.99. It only works in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The account verification feature was free, but only available to “genuine, meaningful, and active” accounts.
Elon Musk closed the deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion on October 28. The entrepreneur cut half the staff of the company. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey claimed responsibility for this, explaining that he had increased the size of the company too quickly. Mr Musk promised review the account verification process. The media claimed that the entrepreneur could raise the Twitter Blue subscription fee from $4.99 to $19.99 per month.
