Twitter launches a private messaging encryption trial

Twitter has launched a trial version of encryption of private messages. This was announced by the owner of the social network Elon Musk.
“Private Message Encryption Trial has just been launched. Try her, but don’t trust her yet,” the businessman tweeted.
It follows from the rules of using Twitter that only verified users, that is, Twitter Blue subscribers, will be able to send encrypted messages. The new feature will also be available to verified organizations (the subscription price for them is $1,000 per month). Also, to send such messages, the gadgets of the interlocutors must have the latest version of Twitter installed.
The Verge notes, that while the function does not work in group chats, however, Twitter promises to fix this shortcoming soon. The company also warned that encryption concerns only the content of messages, but not metadata. The publication writes that promoting technology on Twitter is a priority for Musk as part of the concept of Twitter 2.0.
On May 10, Elon Musk, announcing the data encryption function on the platform, declared, that now he will not be able to reveal the private messages of other users, even if he were “put a gun to his head.” In addition, he also announced the imminent launch of audio and video calls on the social network.
