On Thursday, January 19, Twitter updated regulations for developers. In particular, they are now prohibited from creating “Twitter application replacements or similar services or products” based on its API (Application Programming Interface). This means that the service has officially banned the use of any third-party applications and client programs. The fact that they stopped working, users reported a week ago.
These are Twitter clients such as Tweetbot and Twitterific. They have additional features that are not in the service itself. So, Twitterific was originally created to use Twitter on iOS and macOS devices before the official version of the application was created for these OSes.
Developers and users note that they were not informed about the changes. Twitter published a new agreement, while not distributing information about it. The publication was the first to write about the new agreement Engadget.
