TV channel “Russia-Culture” will present a grandiose project “Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin”

On November 21, the Russia-Culture TV channel will present the premiere of the Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin project.

The documentary series “Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin” is a joint project of the Russia-Culture TV channel and the Moscow Kremlin Museums.

The idea for the film came up a few years ago. Its authors are the editor-in-chief of the Russia-Culture TV channel, the general producer of the project Sergey Shumakov and the general director of the Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Elena Gagarina.

“Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin” is a special project that does not repeat any well-known documentary film about the life of the Kremlin. These are fascinating stories about the relics kept in the Armory and the Diamond Fund, as well as those to whom they once belonged. The film covers six centuries, from Dmitry Donskoy to Nicholas II. The series is based on the emotional stories of the curators, restorers and other specialists of the Kremlin Museums. Eight exciting stories, and each in its own genre. There is melodrama, drama, thriller, political detective here.

“Great attention to this project is given by Sergey Shumakov, who was directly involved in the discussion of the script, filming technology and style of computer graphics. We hope that the events described in this film, the exhibits that are shown in it, will be of interest to the audience. Moreover, this is, in fact, the first film about the life of the Kremlin and its museums, usually hidden from the eyes of the public. The script and the film itself are very unusual, ”Elena Gagarina noted on the set.

Each episode is an independent story in which two lines are intertwined: documentary and staged. The documentary tells about the priceless exhibits of the Moscow Kremlin Museums. For the first time, relics that have never been exhibited will be shown to the general public. Especially for the film crew of the Russia-Culture TV channel, the Maltese crown and the mantle of Paul I, which have never been restored, were removed from the vault. The audience will learn what the Cap of Monomakh is made of, what boots Peter I wore and what the actual size of his feet was.

The production line of the series consists of eight emotional sketches about the life circumstances of the owners of unique exhibits. This is not a dry presentation of facts, but an attempt to create visible images of heroes, to penetrate deep into human thoughts and experiences.

“It is interesting to consider the hero not from the point of view of interpreting the facts, but from the point of view of psychology, the background of his actions. First, we studied a huge number of facts, then, together with the director, we tried to find the story that catches the most. The task is to take a fresh look at historical events, without entering into conflict with them, without going beyond reality. In general, the most difficult thing is to look for treasures, where crowds have passed before you. This path is not smooth. But where you stumble, that’s where your treasure is hidden,” says scriptwriter Marina Denisevich.

Almost every episode will tell about the coronation of Russian monarchs. TV viewers will see the main symbol of royal power from 1762 to 1917 – the Great Imperial Crown, which is kept in the Diamond Fund. It was created for the coronation of Catherine II and for each next autocrat they adjusted it only to the size of his head. A special place is occupied by gifts presented to Russian monarchs to strengthen interstate relations, for example, the carriage presented to Boris Godunov by the English King James I.

“Some items had two or three owners, but absolutely mind-blowing action-packed stories with death, love, betrayal, struggle for power are associated with each – and all this with incredible twists and turns. We have found a pictorial language that will allow us to tell each story in our own way,” said production director Valery Spirin.

The director general of the Moscow Kremlin Museums Elena Gagarina, the head of the textile sector Svetlana Amelekhina, the curator of the painting collection Tatyana Atamuratova, the head of the foreign art sector Fyodor Panfilov and others take part in the film.
