Figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze said that her pupil Alina Zagitova won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang thanks, among other things, to the President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Gorshkov.
“Alina Zagitova probably owes him an Olympic medal,” Tutberidze said on Channel One. “In the pre-Olympic season, it was he who insisted on her participation in junior skates.”
Gorshkov, according to the coach, saw in Zagitova something that “everyone will see in two years.”
“Together with him, we lost an era,” Tutberidze noted. “Hopefully we can carry the same love for figure skating that he carried in himself.”
Alexander Gorshkov is the 1976 Olympic champion in ice dancing, and since 2010 he has headed the FFKKR. On the eve it became known about his sudden death at the 77th year of his life.
