The Turkish army, during a special air operation carried out on Sunday night in northern Iraq and Syria, destroyed the headquarters, warehouses, shelters and bases of terrorists. This was stated on November 20 by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar in a video message shown by TRT.
According to him, “the shelters belonging to the terrorists, caves, tunnels, warehouses” were successfully destroyed.
In addition, Turkey launched “pinpoint strikes” on the so-called “headquarters of a terrorist organization.”
Akar monitored the operation from the situational headquarters. After its completion, he stressed that Turkey conducted it on the basis of the right to self-defence, which stems from Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“The operation has been successfully completed,” said the head of the Turkish Defense Ministry. “Our goal is to ensure the security of 85 million of our citizens and our borders, to eliminate all threats posed to our country and to give an appropriate response to them.”
The minister also added that Turkey will fight terrorism until the last terrorist is eliminated.
The air operation called “Claw-sword” involved over 50 aircraft and 20 UAVs. The strikes targeted the bases of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey and its offshoot in Syria, the People’s Self-Defense Forces.
According to experts, it was a response to the terrorist attack committed on November 13 in Istanbul, which killed 6 people and injured more than eighty.
According to the investigation, the PKK and the People’s Self-Defense Forces were involved in the attack.
