Turkey’s presidential contender vows to leave NATO if he comes to power

Dogu Perincek, leader of the Rodina party and contender for the Turkish presidency, said that if he comes to power, Turkey will leave NATO, as the alliance, in his opinion, poses a threat to the country.
Earlier, Perincek submitted an application to the Supreme Electoral Council to run for the presidency in the elections to be held on May 14. To do this, he needs to collect 100,000 signatures.
Motherland is a left-wing movement that adheres to the positions of the first president of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and has an anti-Western and anti-American orientation. The party considers itself the legal successor of the Socialist Party of Workers and Peasants, founded in 1919. Despite the fact that the party is not represented in the Turkish parliament, it is an influential force, especially in the regions. It has over 50,000 members in its ranks.
